COVID-19 has upended health care systems worldwide, which had to respond in record-time to an unprecedented pandemic. It has pushed health care systems to increase inpatient hospital capacity significantly. This was in stark contrast with a strong push for more outpatient care in the past years by the health ecosystem.

But in parallel, the pandemic has also introduced or increased the use of remote health care tools such as telemedicine and made researchers and innovators look for ways to deliver care in this new normal. What does these short-term fixes mean for the future of European health care systems? Can the path to recovery lead to more resilience and better care?

EPF President Marco Greco took part in a discussion providing the patient perspective during a POLITICO event on health care systems post-COVID.
