I am currently the Director of Research Development and Stakeholder Engagement at the Center for Health Equity Research and Promotion (CHERP), and a practicing clinical psychologist in Behavioral Health at the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System (VAPHS). In addition to serving as a co-investigator on numerous health services research projects, I have expertise in program and quality improvement (QI) evaluation. I orchestrated and guided many VA quality improvement evaluation projects for VAPHS, Clinical Systems Development and Evaluation (CSDE), Office of Health Equity (OHE), and VA Office of Patient Care Services (PCS). These projects involved formative and outcome evaluation activities focused on implementation of the Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureas (MRSA) transmission prevention program; antibiotic timeliness and appropriateness in Community-Acquired Pneumonia; effectiveness, safety, efficiency, and satisfaction with electronic consultation; decreasing racial disparities in hypertension in VISN4; and focus groups with women’s health to better understand the needs of female Veteran’s at VAPHS.
In 2016, I partnered with VAPHS to expand the scope of the established Veteran Advisory Board (VAB) to include health services research. This expansion fosters collaboration between VA Health Services Researchers and Veterans, and provides a venue for researchers to receive input from Veterans regarding study design, recruitment strategies, data collection instruments, and dissemination.
