Passionate about involving patients and the public in the design and delivery of health research. I joined the NIHR Clinical Research Network in 2005 as a full-time Consumer Liaison Officer for the Medicines for Children Research Network (MCRN). For over 10 years my main role was to develop and implement a strategy for involving children, young people, parents and carers in the design and delivery of paediatric research. I set up and supported a National Young Persons’ Advisory Group called GenerationR (www.generationr.org.uk), which has enabled over 100 young people to have a voice in research design and delivery. This has led to a Global effort to involve young people in health research through a Global Consortium called International Children's Advisory Network (iCAN). I currently have a dual role as PPIE Priority Lead for the NIHR Clinical Research Network and PPI Manager for the NIHR Alder Hey Clinical Research Facility. I currently lead on National Patient and Public Involvement Initiatives, such as the Patient Research Ambassador Initiative http://www.nihr.ac.uk/patient-research-ambassadors which supports patients and researchers to actively promote research in NHS Organisations and continue to promote the active involvement of children and young people in health research design and delivery.
