About the organization
Basic details : 'Only those who attempt the absurd can achieve the impossible' Albert Einstein.
Mission : The objectives of the Foundation are:
- The physical ability to move and walk freely is a primary need for all humans.
- The Foundation is therefore aiming to raise funds to enable and accelerate scientific research to support individual MS patients and getting the right treatment to the right patients.
- More specifically, the Foundation is committed to make the currently experimental treatment, called 'Non-myeloablative autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation', available and approved in the Netherlands for those who are most likely to benefit from it. We’ll do so via an awareness campaign to gain public support in accelerating the approval and henceforth access. In the meantime we’ll enable patients to make an informative and well-considered decision via scientific research to seek treatment elsewhere abroad where access is currently available.
- The Foundation strives for (financial) continuity to support Dutch and international organizations in the field of scientific MS research and seeks cooperation with Dutch MS (patient) associations in the organization of fundraising and awareness campaigns.
Vision : 'Only those who attempt the absurd can achieve the impossible' Albert Einstein.
The seemingly impossible crowd funding campaign ‘Help Boaz Op De Been’ (Get Boaz Back on his Feet) to raise over E100.000 for the lifesaving hematopoietic stem transplant for my extremely aggressive Multiple Sclerosis in Uppsala Sweden was more than successful. In only 7 Days I managed to raise the necessary funds since my Dutch Health Insurance refused to reimburse this pioneering and nowadays standard treatment in Sweden. Forever humbled by the generous Dutch crowd I can never truly repay this debt. What I, as a Patient Advocate, can do is to try and give back as much as I can by making this and other groundbreaking treatments available in the Netherlands for those fellow MS sufferers who need it the most. I will try so via my own nonprofit Foundation “Op De Been”.
