ENGAGEMENT, EDUCATION, EMPOWERMENT
We began The S.T.A.R. Initiative in 2013 shortly after being one of several winners of The Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute's (PCORI) and Health 2.0 Matching Challenge. PCORI is the non-profit/non-governmental research institute that is part of the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
Since that time, our mission has been to increase minority participation in health research and clinical trials thru community engagement, education, and empowerment. Engagement has been the key tenet to sharing important health information and resources in communities with low participation rates in research and clinical trials.
As we continue engagement, we are committed to ensure the delivery of equitable health information and education. We are also committed to the improvement of the communities we serve. We understand that health education and resources are needed for activation. Activation leads to participation (now engagement). Engagement leads to empowerment.
