My mission is to co-create a future with more health and more happiness.
Our healthcare ecosystem needs fundamental change to add more quality to our life, not just more quantity. Medicine needs to move from disease charity to health empowerment.
I believe that the key lies in a person-centric approach: it is about me, it is about you, it is not about the average. We are living in a unique time when this change is finally becoming a true possibility. Today my data can be captured, understood and used for better outcomes for me, outcomes that matter to me and my aspirations.
It all starts by truly listening to understand the individual experience. And it ends with each of us taking accountability to act for our own health and well-being. As the Buddhists have said for centuries “Every human being is the author of his own health or disease.”
This change requires both mobilization of minds and coalitions of willing. I am currently focused on delivering this in 3 chosen areas:
> pregnancy and medicine
> patient engagement in medicine development and care delivery
> culture change within organizations aimed at delivering better health solutions
If my mission resonates with you then I'd love us to connect.
Passionate future-centric change agent for improved health and well-being. Rapid and creative thinker who shares and inspires by connecting minds and hearts. Outspoken and focused to deliver better outcomes that matter to the individual.
The Patient Focused Medicines Development (PFMD) group, established in 2015, is an independent multinational coalition, managed in collaboration with The Synergist. Its goal is to bring together initiatives and best practices that integrate the voice of the patient throughout the lifecycle of medicines development, thereby speeding up the creation and implementation of an effective, globally standardized framework. PFMD seeks to have a balanced representation of stakeholders to ensure transparency, inclusiveness, and credibility. Stakeholders include patients and patient organizations across diverse areas of health and industry. We also intend to invite regulators, payers and other professional organizations to the global group to ensure diversity of perspectives.

Our vocation is to be committed to therapeutic progress for the benefit of patients in connection with health professionals, in order to transmit to future generations a world where health is accessible to the greatest number. We put patients first. They are at the heart of each of our activities. We believe that the best way to meet their current and future needs is to work together. All of our considerations, decisions, and actions—from basic research to getting a medicine to market—are governed by this central position of patients.

I will listen to people facing or living with a health challenge to understand their needs and perspectives. I will continue to spend time with them to learn from them. When consulted as physician, I will spend more time listening than talking. Also in my other roles I will seek their perspective and input before selecting, developing and delivering. When listening, I will seek to listen actively beyond the purely physical or medical dimension.Work in progress
I will co-decide on the therapeutic approach with the people who consult me as physician, taking into account their perspectives and needs beyond the purely physical or medical. I will also work with people facing or living with a health challenge when selecting, developing and delivering my contributions as consultant and advisor or employee.Work in progress
Through feedback I will make sure that any explanations given to or therapy agreed with people who consult me is in fact understood by them. In the same way I will make sure that they understand the reason behind any suggestions that I make. When writing or presenting I will use understandable language by ensuring patient and layperson input and feedback. Last but not least, I will continue to be a vocal and passionate advocate for patient engagement and for patient focused medicines development on issues that matter to people facing or living with a health challenge.Work in progress
